Since 1993, Asistencia en la Carretera has evolved alongside the needs of drivers in Puerto Rico, developing a 24/7 roadside assistance operation backed by decades of experience, coordination, and service on roads across the island.
Roadside Assistance
Asistencia en la Carretera was founded in 1993 by José Orlando Colón Cruz, CAPM, SC, as one of the pioneering operations in the development of organized roadside assistance services in Puerto Rico. From its beginnings, the company established a structure focused on coordinating roadside services, with United States Auto Club (USAC) as one of its first clients, an organization that at the time administered nationwide roadside assistance services associated with Ford Motor Company.
In 1998, the operation expanded its reach by coordinating Roadside Assistance services for new Chevrolet vehicles in Puerto Rico through programs associated with Chevrolet Canada. Locally, some of these services were also coordinated through the former operator TCC, contributing to the development of operational experience, provider coordination, and coverage across different areas of the island.
In 2011, the domain asistenciaenlacarretera.com was acquired, marking a new stage in the operation’s evolution and digital transformation. Over time, the service was consolidated under the Asistencia en la Carretera brand, with a structure focused on the management, coordination, and dispatch of roadside assistance services throughout Puerto Rico.
Today, asistenciaenlacarretera.com serves as an operational platform coordinating a network of more than 80 service providers, including towing operators, roadside assistance technicians, and automotive locksmith professionals. This structure allows for broader coverage, centralized coordination, and a more efficient response to drivers’ needs.
With 33 years of experience, Asistencia en la Carretera continues to operate under principles of responsibility, compliance, and commitment to consumers. As a Puerto Rican company, it maintains a long-standing presence in the evolution of Puerto Rico’s roadside assistance industry, supported by a structure designed to provide service and coordination across the island.
