Since 1993, our operation has evolved alongside the needs of Puerto Rico drivers. Today, that experience continues under Road Assist, a renewed identity that represents decades of service, coordination, and roadside assistance throughout Puerto Rico.
From Asistencia en la Carretera to Road Assist
It was founded in 1993 by José Orlando Colón Cruz, CAPM, SC, as one of the pioneering operations in the development of organized roadside assistance services in Puerto Rico. From its beginnings, the company established a structure dedicated to coordinating roadside services, with United States Auto Club (USAC) among its first clients. At the time, USAC administered roadside assistance programs associated with Ford Motor Company nationwide.
In 1998, the operation expanded its reach by coordinating Roadside Assistance services for new Chevrolet vehicles in Puerto Rico, as part of programs associated with Chevrolet Canada. Locally, some of these services were also coordinated through the then-operator TCC, contributing to the development of operational experience and broader service coverage throughout Puerto Rico.
In 2011, the domain asistenciaenlacarretera.com was acquired, marking a new stage in the operation’s evolution and digital transformation. Over time, the service became established under the Asistencia en la Carretera identity, with a structure dedicated to the administration, coordination, and dispatch of roadside assistance services throughout Puerto Rico.
A Network of 87 Service Units Across Puerto Rico
Currently, Road Assist coordinates a network of 87 service units throughout Puerto Rico, including towing, roadside assistance, and automotive locksmith units. Coordination and dispatch are centrally managed through Road Assist, facilitating the assignment of an available unit based on the type of assistance required and the driver’s location. This structure allows Road Assist to expand its island-wide coverage while maintaining a central point of communication and coordination throughout the service.
As part of the evolution of its digital and commercial presence, asistenciaenlacarretera.com publicly adopted the Road Assist brand, while maintaining the experience, operational structure, and history developed since 1993.
On September 13, 2026, Road Assist LLC was organized in Puerto Rico, formally establishing the corporate entity under which the Road Assist brand and its roadside assistance operations continue to develop.
With 33 years of experience, Road Assist continues to operate under principles of responsibility, compliance, and commitment to consumers. As a Puerto Rican company, it maintains a history closely connected to the evolution of roadside assistance in Puerto Rico, supported by an operational structure designed to provide island-wide coordination and coverage.
